In Memory of Pat Brophy

Patrick Thomas Brophy, 76, Nevada, MO, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010, in Nevada, MO.  He was born on March 28, 1934, in Nevada, MO, to Joseph Patrick Brophy and Dixie Virginia Thomas Brophy.

Patrick graduated from Nevada High School in 1952 and was a lifelong resident of Nevada. He worked in the family business, Brophy Monument Company, until the business was sold in 1970. Patrick was a member of the Col. John T. Coffey Camp #1934 Son’s of Confederate Veterans, also the Vernon County Historical Society where he served as curator and corresponding secretary. He was known as the town historian and the keeper of Vernon County History. Patrick was the editor of the Bushwhacker "Musings" for over 40 years and the author of several books as well as the curator of the Bushwhacker Museum.

Survivors include his cousins, Ruth Collins and Barbara Klumpp, both of Belton, MO, Jeanne Schlatter, Glen Arbor, MI, Betty Ann Bartolac, Mooresville, NC; a longtime friend, Herman Jank, of the home, and a host of friends of the Vernon County Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, with Herman Jank officiating.  Interment was in Deepwood Cemetery, Nevada, MO.
